About Us

The International Studies Program is an interdisciplinary program within the College of Letters & Science and the Division of International Studies.

The IS Program offers an undergraduate major with four areas of specialization:

  • Global Security
  • International Political Economy & Policy Studies
  • Culture in an Age of Globalization
  • Global Commons/Global Environment

These foci present an exciting opportunity for students to engage in contemporary debates on global issues. The impact of globalization has never been more apparent then now, with the rising concerns of national security, national and global economies, human rights, natural resources, sustainability, and the cultural flow of technology and imagery.

John Campbell

John Campbell, US Ambassador to Nigeria
met with a group of IS students interested in foreign affairs in fall 2008.

As one of 16 member programs of the International Institute, the International Studies Program benefits from the great wealth of campus specialists on virtually every region of the world. Faculty in these programs, representing numerous departments across campus, teach IS seminars. Students also have the opportunity to meet with distinguished diplomats, whether in undergraduate lectures, seminars or in career workshops.
